Absence of Reality
This project was a continuation of my undergrad thesis topic, 3D animation in advertising. In this project I focused on the effect that realistic virtual environments has on our ability to distinguish the real world from the virtual. I used the fridge as a metaphor for a virtual environment that exists within reality, and the ice cube as the unobtainable hyper-realised representation of a real world object. It consisted of a satirical animated video which highlights the increasing grey area between real and virtual as virtual images become more realistic looking. It the exhibition this video was accompanied by an Augmented Reality element where users can point there phone cameras at the open fridge and a virtual ice cube appears in the digital realm.
